General Description

Make the Cut, hosted by American Idol Matt Giraud, is a talent contest for singers and vocalists. The contestant left standing after this multi-round, progressive-elimination competition will be declared the Grand Prize Winner and will – quite literally – Make the Cut: that is, the winner will cut a recording at the southeast Michigan studio with the encouragement and under the guidance of Matt Giraud and other industry professionals.

Contest Structure

Make the Cut has three rounds -- a Submission round, a Semifinal round, and a Final round.

Round 1: Submissions

During the Submission round, you are allowed to upload one video submission to Make the Cut. We highly recommend reviewing both the FAQs and the Official Rules before creating and uploading your submission. Note in particular the eligibility and submission requirements, and the relationship between Make the Cut and the YOBISing Contest.

A panel of impartial judges will screen and evaluate all Make the Cut submissions and will choose which vocalists to advance to the Semifinal round. The exact date of this announcement will be publicized in advance on the Make the Cut website.

Round 2: Semifinals

If you are chosen to advance to the Semifinal round, you will be featured on the Make the Cut website and will be formally notified via email by YOBI.tv. All Semifinal round vocalists are required to create a profile and to participate actively in the Make the Cut / YOBI.tv community. The full Submission round videos of all Semifinal round vocalists will appear on their profiles.

All Semifinalists are required to have access to a functional webcam. Each Semifinalist will be interviewed via webcam by Make the Cut host Matt Giraud, who will critique and offer feedback on the performance given by the Semifinalist in their Submission round video. Clips from these interviews will be edited into webisodes that will air on the Make the Cut website.

YOBI.tv members will vote periodically during the Semifinal round to determine which vocalists will advance to the Final round. Additional information regarding the Semifinal round voting procedures will be announced in advance on the Make the Cut website. The exact date of the announcement of which vocalists have advanced to the Final round will likewise be publicized in advance on the Make the Cut website.

Round 3: Finals

We anticipate the announcement of the vocalists named as Make the Cut Finalists will be filmed either in a professional studio or in a concert venue in southeastern Michigan, and that Finalists will be required to perform a portion of their submitted material in a public venue and to record their submitted material in the professional recording studio.

During the Final round, Finalists will be interviewed via webcam and coached by Matt Giraud. Clips of these interviews will be edited into a series of webisodes that will air on the Make the Cut website. Additional information regarding the Semifinal round voting procedures will be announced in advance on the Make the Cut website.

The vocalist who is not eliminated during the Final round will be declared the Grand Prize Winner of Make the Cut and will – quite literally – make a cut: that is, he or she will cut a recording at the southeast Michigan studio with the encouragement and under the guidance of Make the Cut Host Matt Giraud.

Additional information related to the Make the Cut contest, including timelines and prizes, will be posted on the Make the Cut website in the weeks and months to come.
