Being a Black actor in Utah, I've had some VERY odd things said to me after a performance.

I think it's sad that you've had those experiences...but chock it up to a largely homogeneous society, no matter where you are! When you get to NYC, it'll be different crap with the same smell. :) You just may not be on the receiving end of it as much--someone else will. And it's not just being a whitey. Here in Utah, you've also got the Mormon thing (which, luckily, at least you don't have to feel outcast about, since you are!). I don't know how it is in NYC...but when I moved to Los Angeles, I cannot even tell you how many people's first question to me, after finding out that I was from Utah, was if I was Mormon. Or what Mormons really believed about polygamy. Or what about garments (which they all insist on saying is "magic underwear"). I'm not even Mormon anymore, and I found the line of questioning insulting just from a the stance of being respectful for someone else's faith... Crazy!!! Funny video though. And I agree with you. :) Your opportunities will be limited in Utah not only as a black performer, but also just because Utah is a small (though growing) market. You're WAY better off in NYC or LA for the type of talent that you have. I wish my post could have been more insightful. As a whitey...it's hard for me to even really imagine it, since there are apparently still slivers of misunderstanding. :( I kinda get it, having lived in Los Angeles where whitey is the minority. Not the same as getting told that a guy would buy you if you were a slave though...though I did get propositioned quite a few times! Men are just pigs all around. :P
