YOBISing Season 2 Winner Luke Roberts congratulates the latest batch of YOBISing Semifinalists, and brother Daniel gives us a crash course in the rhythm patterns associated with various musical genres.
Hey everybody, welcome to YOBISing season three. I’m your host, Luke Roberts. So today’s a really exciting day. Besides the fact that I’m moving back into school at UMBC for the fall semester, tonight at 11 p.m. Band of Brothers is going to be interviewed on 98Rock with Noise in the Basement. So you can listen live to that around the world at http://98online.com, and don’t forget to come out tomorrow night to our show at the Quarter in Baltimore. Tickets are only five dollars and the doors open at eight o’clock, so we hope to see you guys there. Now we’ve made it to the fourth week leading up to the second semi-final round, so make sure you get your video in and you just might make it to the finals. Now I’m going to hand it over to Daniel and he’s going to give you some tips about playing some really cool different styles of music. Hey everybody I’m Daniel Roberts. This week I’d like to talk to you about rhythms that are associated with specific styles in music. The first is rock. In rock music there are a lot of eighth note rhythms. So for instance, that’s almost all eighth notes. One and two and three and four and, or sorry, one and two and one and two and. The second is funk. In funk you have a lot of sixteenth note syncopations. Finally there’s reggae too. Reggae has a constant upstroke a lot in guitar which falls on the and of each beat. So one, two, one, two, three, four. So there you have it. Thanks for watching. My name is Daniel Roberts and this is YOBISing.
