  "Helen Loves Frank" is the true story of an elderly lonely lady named Helen, who befriended me then committed suicide when I was 14, my freshman year.

   Helen had Polio and would apparently watch me from her window every morning as I would run to catch the bus for school late as usual! She eventually approached me and we (my mom my 2 sisters & I) became friends. She  would cook for us and have us over for dinner. However she deeply missed her husband Frank  who had died before I met her. Her loneliness was further compounded by the fact that she rarely saw her daughter and grandchildren. She talked about Frank constantly and her love for him. She often spoke of wanting to die to be with him again.

   One Sunday morning my mother woke me telling me that Helen had shot herself with her own rifle and that since I was the oldest , I needed to go over and sit with Helen til the ambulance & detectives arrived. I remember Helen in her nightgown sitting in her recliner when I arrived, the rifle perched against the wall. Helen was alive and conscious, she just had a hole in her chest. I remember expecting chaos and blood, but there was neither. It was quiet. She quietly said to me that the rifle had accidently gone off while she was cleaning it. She later admitted to me in the hospital that this was a lie. She died in the hospital 2 weeks later...
