I have a story, one like many other stories, but it is true, and mine.  I wrote this song for my ex-boyfriend, who left me after a year together because he thought he was in the way of my goals – only to see many of my dreams shatter that same day.  The first two lines came to me on my birthday almost as soon as I had blown out the candles.  The rest of the song fell into place pretty quickly.  I keep trying to put on a good face, but six months later, I still believe life was better with him.
