By the River of Phnom Pehn
SleepySorrows
Written, sung & destroyed by Richie. An original song written here in Cambodia, a tribute & a love song for Cambodia's first city, a city which has seen so much pain yet still mesmerizes more which each visit...with some added background noise from the guys jamming next door!
By the River of Phnom Pehn
You ask me to stay then you turn & face the other way
What can you say when your dreams fade away?
I sit by the river, I sit by the trees watching the world pass by
I know this old city could do with a clean and the Bars hold many alibis
At a riverside stop near a light-shining Wat, a broken down guesthouse is all that I’ve got
And a suitcase, a bed, and a troublesome head
A pocket of dreams where once cash was instead
Phnom Pehn, you're inside my head
And I know this old city though don't look too pretty as the paint peels the years from her walls
But if I have the choice then I'll stay and rejoice in the greatest city of them all
In your streets, your wandering streets, I wondered why you needed me
But on closer reflection, some heart-felt detection, I know it’s you I need to be free
In your streets, your wandering streets, I wondered why you needed me
But on closer reflection, some heart-felt detection, I know it’s you I need to be free
Phnom Pehn, you’re part of me
Phnom Pehn, you’re part of me
You ask me to stay then you turn & face the other way
